Writing Stays

A desk, a window, and nobody to interrupt you.

Midweek, single occupancy, with a quieter rate for writers and creatives who need time and space to work.

The offer

Midweek stays for getting something done.

Sometimes you just need a few days away from everything else to get on with something. From Monday to Thursday, we offer The Granary at a reduced rate for one guest who is here to write, draw, edit or think.

There is a dedicated study with a desk, fast broadband and plenty of natural light. A vintage Olivetti typewriter is there if you fancy going analogue, and there are plenty of other places to settle — the long table, the sofa, or the garden when the weather allows. Wi-Fi is optional.

There is no minimum output, and nobody will ask how it is going.

The desk

A generous marble-topped desk, a comfortable chair and a vintage Olivetti typewriter for when you fancy going analogue.

Space to think

The Granary is peaceful and private, with views over the gardens and fields beyond from almost every room. There's space to concentrate when you need to, and plenty of room to switch off when you don't.

At your own pace

Start with coffee in the garden, settle in at your desk for a few hours, then take a break with a walk or a change of scenery. Or head to the North Norfolk coast when you need some fresh inspiration.

A day here

Morning

First light on the east window. Coffee in the kitchen or out in the garden, followed by a few uninterrupted hours at the desk.

Midday

Lunch at your own pace. Perhaps a wander around the gardens or a little fresh air before getting back to it.

Afternoon

Back to the writing, or a change of scene. There are plenty of lovely places nearby when you need a break.

Evening

A good dinner, a long bath and a favourite record as the sun sets over the back field.

The countryside views are stunning and the quiet is exactly what I needed. I found myself spending evenings with the record player, picking up the guitar, and even typing away on the vintage typewriter. These aren't just decorative pieces, they invite you to slow down.
